iOS 5 lets you split your iPad’s keyboard into two parts, one for each thumb, and then use two hands both to grip the iPad and to type. Splitting the keyboard is easy. Simply use thumb gestures to pull the keyboard apart. Or hold the keyboard button on the bottom right corner of the screen, then select “split.” You can restore the keyboard to its natural state by thumbing it back together or by holding the keyboard button and selecting “merge.”
A related feature that can come in handy lets you undock the keyboard (either split or merged) from the bottom of the screen. This, too, is accomplished by holding the keyboard button, then selecting “undock.” To re-anchor the keyboard to the bottom of the screen, hold the keyboard button and select “dock.”
Yet another way in which it is cool to have opposable thumbs. What next?
